A series of blazes ignited in late February along the Texas panhandle. The fires expanded quickly, fueled by high winds, dry conditions, and record heat. The largest of the blazes, the Smokehouse Creek Fire, was the largest wildfire in Texas history.
WCK identified the communities of Canadian, Fritch, Borger, and Stinnett as places in need of support thanks to guidance from the local culinary community. Members of our Relief Team were in the region for two weeks, working to deliver delicious hot meals made by local restaurants to people impacted by the fires.

Neighbors helping neighbors
Kimbra, owner of the food truck Porch Swing Eats and Treatz, cooked more than a hundred meals each day for people in her community of Stinnett who needed food in the aftermath of the fires.

Desa, Bruno, and the team of Roma Italian Restaurant prepared lasagna with salad and garlic bread for people impacted by the wildfires in their community of Borger.
Canadian
Rosa and the rest of the team at The Bucket prepared delicious breakfast sandwiches for families impacted by wildfires in Canadian.
Amarillo
Restaurant partner Jason’s Deli from Amarillo prepared 450 sandwiches for first responders and impacted families.
Culinary students in action
WCK worked with culinary students at AmtTech Career Academy in Amarillo to prepare hundreds of sandwiches for first responders battling fires near Stinnett. Chef Rhonda—a culinary instructor at AmTech Career Academy—ensured the sandwiches reached the crews who were working tirelessly to control the blaze.
