Zakat, Fulfilled Through Food
Distributing Zakat is rooted in responsibility, dignity, and care for people. During Ramadan, that responsibility becomes stronger. Hunger is felt more deeply, and the obligation to act becomes clearer.
At World Central Kitchen, Zakat is honored through one clear purpose: feeding people who are struggling. In Gaza, that purpose is urgent, daily, and unavoidable.
When Hunger Is A Daily Reality
In Gaza, hunger is not a reflection exercise. It is a lived reality produced by violence, displacement, and the breakdown of food access since October 2023. Families have been forced from their homes repeatedly, supply routes have been cut and are tightly restricted, and the ability to obtain food has been destabilized. For many households, the question is no longer what to eat, but whether food will arrive at all.
WCK’s work in Gaza centers on restoring certainty. Through a Palestinian-led network of six large-capacity field kitchens, dozens of community kitchens, bakeries, and local partners, our teams cook and distribute food every day, close to where families are living. This work is sustained, deliberate, and designed to endure.

Designed With Intention, Delivered With Care
To support families through Ramadan, WCK teams spent months designing food kits specifically for Muslim households. Each kit contains approximately 70 meals. Every item is halal-certified, culturally appropriate, and selected to help families sustain themselves from suhoor to iftar with dignity.
This Ramadan, WCK plans to deliver 100,000 food kits alongside daily hot meals, bread, and clean water. Together, this effort represents seven million meals delivered over the course of the month.
Zakat Verification, Taken Seriously
The name Zakat carries weight, accountability, and trust. At WCK, we approach this responsibility with care.
WCK’s work in the Middle East has been certified as Zakat-eligible by the Jordanian General Fatwa Office and the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought. In North America, WCK’s Gaza response has also received Zakat verification from respected scholars through established Zakat institutions.
Every dollar given as Zakat to support WCK’s work in Gaza is restricted exclusively to food aid for Muslim families. No portion is used for overhead, operations, or infrastructure. WCK’s accounting systems are structured to enforce these restrictions and are verified through internal audits.
Food Without Conditions
Ramadan reminds us that feeding people is a shared responsibility. Zakat insists on action rooted in justice and compassion.
In Gaza and beyond, WCK’s mission is clear. Food is delivered without conditions, without delay, and without compromise. During Ramadan and always.
