First Alert: WCK in Guam in Response to Super Typhoon Sinlaku
World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is responding in Guam after Super Typhoon Sinlaku hit communities in the western Pacific Ocean. The storm, currently at Category 4 intensity, brought torrential rain and hurricane-force wind gusts to Guam hours before its arrival. Forecasts predict more storm surges, destructive winds, and another 6-12 inches of rain that could lead to flash flooding as the storm passes.
Sinlaku is the strongest tropical typhoon so far in 2026, with winds up to 185 mph. It is also earlier than usual in the year for a storm of this strength—most typhoons in this region typically occur from July-November. Super Typhoon Sinlaku is slow-moving, prolonging the impact on islands in the region. In Guam, strong winds have already downed power lines and many areas on the island are flooded. Thankfully, the island avoided a direct hit from the storm.
Our team is already on the island and coordinating with local partners to deliver food and water to affected communities to ensure families receive the support they need. This remains a quickly evolving situation.
