WCK Responds to Severe Flash Floods in Spain

#ChefsForSpain
Madrigueras, Spain | October 2026
World Central Kitchen responded to severe flash flooding in Madrigueras, in southeastern Spain after heavy rains from the DANA storm system struck the region overnight. Alongside local partners, our teams served meals to impacted families.

The flash flood caused significant damage to local infrastructure. At least one person died and firefighters rescued some 90 residents. We are on the ground, working with Cañitas Maite in Albacete, a restaurant partner who supported our response during the Valencia DANA. WCK’s food truck and a support vehicle are also en route from Madrid to assist with the response.

WCK has experience responding to floods in Spain—earlier this year in southern Spain responding to storm Leonardo, and in 2024 responding to the Valencia DANA.

Severe flooding from the DANA storm shut down roads and critical facilities—including health centers—across the area. Locals are working tirelessly to clear the mud and begin rebuilding. WCK is right there with them, serving meals to fuel the recovery effort.
