FIRST ALERT: WCK Responds to Severe Flash Floods in Spain
World Central Kitchen (WCK) is responding to severe flash flooding in Madrigueras, in southeastern Spain after heavy rains from the DANA storm system struck the region overnight. Alongside local partners, our teams are already serving meals to impacted families.
The flash flood hit last night, causing significant damage to local infrastructure. At least one person has died and firefighters have rescued some 90 residents. We are on the ground, working with Cañitas Maite in Albacete, a restaurant partner who supported our response during the Valencia DANA. WCK’s food truck and a support vehicle are also en route from Madrid to assist with the response.
WCK has experience responding to floods in Spain—earlier this year in southern Spain responding to storm Leonardo, and in 2024 responding to the Valencia DANA.
